Welcome

Welcome to our consultation website for 75 new genuinely affordable homes on the corner of Avenue Park Road, next to Tulse Hill station.

We would like input from the community on our proposal and have set up this consultation website as one way to ensure we can hear your views.

Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing are a leading affordable housing provider and are already successfully working with communities locally.

The outline planning application has now been updated, you can view the updated files here.

The Site

The site is on disused land to the south of Thurlow Park Road, bordered by Avenue Park Road and Tulse Hill station/the railway line.

You may have noticed we recently started some general maintenance and tidying of the site, removing overgrown vegetation and renewing the site hoarding.

What local people have said so far

In the spring and summer of 2021 we undertook a survey to hear from the local community. The feedback has informed the work by the team so far.

You can read the full survey findings here.

In summary, the survey showed residents felt the area looked run down and neglected, resulting in ‘feeling unsafe’. High levels of traffic were also highlighted as a key issue by those who responded. The survey further showed residents would like to see an increase in greenery as well as places for the community to socialise and the provision of workspace.

We started public consultation in December 2022, you can read more about what we did and what people said here.

Community benefits

The proposal would provide the following community benefits:

  • 75 genuinely affordable new homes, a mix of sizes, including 3-bed family homes
  • The homes will be available at rents far below market levels, similar to council rents
  • Improvements to Avenue Park Road including ‘play on the way’ facilities for children and new tree planting
  • A communal green space for future residents including play space for children
  • New pedestrian and cycle paths, together with bike storage for residents
  • A ground floor workspace for local businesses fronting Thurlow Park Road, for the benefit of the wider community
  • A high quality design, prepared by award winning JTP Architects, influenced by local character and materials, making a positive contribution to the local area
